Week 6 Review
Saturday with the storms behind us and 4 girls out for the prom we took on Clay. Two JV players came up to help but it still wasn't the best day for the lady Mounties. We only had 2 hits against the Cougars, 1 each coming from AJ and Meleah so the game ended in a 7-0 defeat.
The next game on Saturday wasn't any better against Mcadory. AJ had the only hit the entire game. There's not much you can say about a 12-0 loss except I think AJ had fun pitching for 2 innings. Good Job AJ!!!
Thursday the County Tourney started with a 15 - 0 victory over Irwin. AJ, Caitlin and Robyn each had 2 hits in the win. Brittany had a double and home-run in the same inning. I thought things were off to a good start.
Tuesday night Caitlin slammed a home-run and KT had 2 base hits but the Mounties still lost the effort. Pell City defeated us 7 - 5. We played hard but just fell a little short.
KT not only lead Valley to a win by pitching a shut-out against Pinson on Monday night she also had 2 hits. The defense did their part to back Kayla up by playing to win, without many errors. Brittany & AJ both contributed 2 hits each to help in the 3-0 Victory.
Week 5 Review
Monday
Monday -- After being off for a week, because of spring break, which made me a little nervous since we've been playing so well. The Lady Mounties took to the road for the first of three scheduled away games. They Started the week off with a caravan to Carver. The game was called after three innings with Shades Valley putting another mark in their WIN column--defeating Carver 22 - 2. Decription of the game---HIT!!RUN!!SCORE!!
TuesdayWhat can be said about the Gardendale game? The Score was tied 2 - 2 going into the sixth ining. With two hits each from AJ, Brooke and Robin, we were still defeated 10 - 2 by the Rockets. I feel there was a couple bad calls and few errors, we could have done without. But overall the game was within our reach, we just couldn't quite grab it.
Thursday
We were hosted by the Greenwave thursday afternoon for the first game played on their new softball field. They even let the student body out to attend. The lead changed hands several times and going into the top of the sixth innng the score was tied 3 - 3!! I hate to say this but leeds's first 3 runs were all unearned. For the Mounties, Ashley had 2 hits, B was on base 3 out of 4 times (she was called out for leaving first early once, but that was a bogus call), and AJ even pulled off a double play. Then-- the inning we all hate to see happened. Leed's scored 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth for the win. Yes, we were defeated 6 - 3 but what a game it was!
Week 4
No Softball !! Most Gone To The Beach !!Week 3 Review
Monday we hosted Pleasant Grove at home and went down in a 7-2 defeat. We never quite pulled it together. The bats seemed to remain quiet and the defense made a few errors. That said, I do think things are looking up and with just a few more games under our belt our chances of winning are looking better.
WE DID IT !!! OUR FIRST WIN !!! SCORE 11-0 !!!
Tuesday Pinson Valley came to visit and was handed a sound defeat by our lady Mounties. The team finally pulled it all together. Our outfield - Brooke, Caitlin, and Robin was ready for any situation that flew their way. The infield - Allison, Meleah, Brittany, Ashley and A.J. were pumped up and pulled together to come up with some awesome plays. The pitcher - Madison was right on target pitching her first complete game of the year. This was a total TEAM effort for our first WIN of the YEAR.
We Did It Again !!!
Thursday the lady Mounties traveled to Mortimer Jordan and came away with a hard fought 4-2 VICTORY. The pitching combination of Kayla and Madison with the defense behind them held the Blue Devils to only 2 runs. THE Mounties first run came on a solo HOMERUN by KAYLA TAMBERELLI. Our next 3 runs started on a walk and was followed by several hits. In the bottom on the 7th inning Moriner Jordan had runners on first and second with 2 outs. A hit into short center field was fielded by Caitlin and fired home but the throw was to late and they scored. Immediatley A.j. fired the ball to B. at second who tagged the runner for the final out of the game.
Week 2 Review
March 6th
Monday we played at Spain Park. Although we went down in a 6 to 5 defeat, it was the most competitive game we've played so far this year. During the game the score went back and forth 3 or 4 times. If not for a Spain Park 3 run homer in the bottom of the 6th inning it might have been our first win. We tried to rally in the top of the 7th by scoring 2 runs, one being a HOMERUN by MADISON, but we just fell a little short. Maybe next time!!
March 8th
Wednesday night at home McAdory handed us a 7 to 2 defeat. It was a hard fought game until the 4th inning when a McAdory player hit a 3 run shot over the left field fence. Again, we played well but fell a little short. Defensively things are looking up. As far as offensively, we still need to bring out the bats. Lets hope a few more players will step up to the plate and show everyone how to getter' done!!!
March 10th
The Clay Tourament this weekend was a complete wash out and not just from the rain. The ladies went down in defeat 3 times in one evening. Losing to : Oxford 8 - 2, Pleasant Grove 5 - 2, Vestavia 7 - 0. What can you say? I'm speechless!!
Week 1 Review
The 2006 Shades Valley Softball Team started the season off on the wrong foot but as the week progressed they firmly placed both feet on the ground.
As a team they pulled together, even playing different positions, showing that they could do what it took to be a competitive TEAM.
The improvement was AWESOME, it was like someone turned on the switch. Now, with the lights on there's only one way to look and thats FORWARD!!!
We won't re-visit last weeks games, this time. Instead as Parents ,Friends and Fans we will look forward. Forward to watching our ladies reach their full potential.
